Ahhhh snowboarding season! Waking up at 4am, hauling a gallon-sized thermos of coffee for the long drive up the mountains. The anticipating excitement fluttering in your stomach when you get off the lift for the first time. The icy wind on your cheeks as you weave down, trying to avoid your friend’s aimed torpedo… Wait, what?
In Hudson’s WiiWare™ game Snowboard Riot, snowboard cross just got more interesting. You’ll be able to experience the exhilaration of speeding down the slopes AND shoot rockets at your fellow racers, all in the warmth of your living room (hot cocoa not included). If you’ve ever boarded and raced with your friends, you know the urge to hurl a snowball in their direction when they get the lead. However, the ammo in Snowboard Riot is not made of mere slushy ice! A variety of weapons await your disposal and destruction, such as icicles and turbo boosts. Put away that wax, you’re going to need more than that to shield yourself from these missiles!
It will be a battle against 4 players, flesh-made or computer, online via Nintendo® Wi-Fi or offline for two players within actual arm-smacking distance. Carving towards victory is as simple as using your Wii™ Remote to fire your arsenal of rockets and the Nunchuck™ to carve through some fresh powder.
But if you want a more challenging and realistic feel, Snowboard Riot also features use of the Wii Balance Board! Lean left, right, forwards or backwards just like on a real snowboard, and try to keep your balance while bombing your opponents. But sorry, even if you might be enjoying the slopes right next your space heater, we can’t guarantee that your thighs won’t be sore!
Although snowboarding might be just as enjoyable without snow on your living room carpet, snowboarding wouldn’t be snowboarding without some sick gear. Thankfully, Snowboard Riot has character customization, from being able to choose from four different characters, to suiting them up with Oakley (the gear blessed by sports gods). And since you’ll be wearing such heavenly gear, the Oakley apparel and goggles will be improving your character’s performance. Stylish and supersonic? I like how that sounds.
Can you outrace fellow boarders AND projectiles? No need to bundle up, but you will have to brace yourself! It’s Snowboarding + Weapons. ‘Nuff said.
Snowboard Riot is rated E for Everyone by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). Exploding soon!
